Affordable Housing Demand

Shifting demographics are building demand for affordable housing

The great depression fundamentally changed the way people saved and invested their money. Most all those who lived through those times became frugal almost to a fault even in their later years when many were flush with cash. We are starting to see a similar response to the housing correction for those who purchased homes recently. An article in USA Today reports that home ownership peaked in 2007 at 70% and projects that we will see home ownership rates drop to rates not seen since the 1980's.

This drop in home ownership is poised to benefit the operation of apartments for years to come as it will drive up the demand for affordable housing at a time when demand is already high and new construction is not on the near horizon.

“The success of apartments as a whole is based on one key factor, demand for affordable housing. Demand today is strong and projected to grow for some time. ”
